“Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.” — William Shakespeare

To redeem is to compensate for losses made. In relation to time, it is to buy up or swallow up every good opportunity and to make the best use of your time while at it, bearing in mind that time has already been lost or wasted.

Practical Ways to Buy Back Opportunities

The time for action is now. It’s never too late to do something.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Going forward,

1. Prepare for opportunities beforehand

2. Develop a sharp focus

3. Manage/deal ruthlessly with distractions with wisdom- say no to here in order to say yes elsewhere. That would mean declining certain offers and saying yes to others, especially to those that build up to the big picture.

“It’s not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?” Henry David Thoreau

4. Make little gains and celebrate the seemingly minute milestones

5. Build bridges, especially in relation to strategic relationships. Know which relationships distract, deal with them, and which you need to nurture.

“With technology and over-scheduling, we are forgetting to invest time in simple connective moments with others.” — Michelle Gielan

6. Prioritise – Priorities differ from person to person and organisation to organisation. Imitate the good, modify where necessary, but refuse to copy blindly.

7. Seek mentorship and coaching. This is critical to charting a course that compensates for lost time. Ideas emerging from coaching may appear to be insignificant but almost always help to chart more productive paths and may well be the difference you seek as you engage with a coach/mentor.

A life coach does for the rest of your life what a personal trainer does for your health and fitness.” – Elaine MacDonald

8. Re-visit your strategies and schedules regularly for the purpose of fine-tuning them to suit where you are headed.

“The most efficient way to live reasonably is every morning to make a plan of one’s day and every night to examine the results obtained.”  — Alexis Carrel

Conclusion

Life is full of opportunities. Do not lose focus if you miss a few. Re-focus and get back on track to redeem as much of what was lost as possible.
