Have you ever made a choice that effected the direction of your life or your career because you felt that it's what other people expected you to do?

This is a topic that I have been thinking about lately as I have come across many people that have and/or still allow their parents, friends, colleagues, the media, teachers, etc.(the influencer) to influence the choices they make and the direction of their lives.

They feel that it is their duty to live a life that "the influencer" has imagined for them, often a life the influencer wishes they could have for themselves, or because they, themselves, were once influenced by their own influencer to think that the influencer knows what is always best for them.

True, there are times that we need to listen to the counsel of others and perhaps give heed to their words, but it doesn't mean that they are correct. Never be unwilling to listen, to think, to meditate, to introspect on your own life or counsel from others you respect, because you will find that when you take the time to truly listen with the intent to take the right path no matter what, that is when you will come to know and feel what is truly correct.

If you want to be happy, if you want to live a life that is worth your time then do that which makes you happy, not that which others expect of you. Break the shackles of society’s expectations and live the life you have imagined.

As Christopher Morley said, “There is only one success – To be able to spend your life in your own way”.

Have fun my friends, living life your own way!
